Metedconk River Yacht Club – Jersey-Friendly Yards

The Metedeconk River Yacht Club (MRYC) is a private club that promotes the sport of yachting and good fellowship among its members. The entrance to the Club hosts a Jersey-Friendly garden. A portion of the garden bed sits on top of an old concrete road, random patches of soil are compacted more than 3 inches deep, with a heavy mix of gravel and rock. No macro-organisms were observed in the soil. The addition of compost adds organic matter to the soil, which invites and supports soil organisms. Mulch locks moisture into the soil and adds nutrients as it slowly decomposes. Located across the street from the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, the garden is a model of both beauty, as wells as environmentally-friendly landscaping. Drought-tolerant, sun-loving, and deer-resistant native plants were selected using the Jersey-Friendly Yards Plant Database.
